The Dowry system

In the ancient times dowry had a noble motive. The parents of the bride would think it their moral duty to help the groom’s parents in bringing up their daughter. So they would give certain things in dowry. During those days no share from father’s property was given to girls, so dowry acted as a way to ensure financial stability in their daughter’s life.

Now proper share in property is given to girls, so dowry has become unnecessary. But still it is prevailing in Indian society. These days bridegrooms are being auctioned and the highest bidder gets his daughter married. Marriages have diverted from the concept of love to a business to acquire profits. Due to this evil practice many brides have lost their lives both before and after marriages.

Government has implemented strict laws to prohibit dowry system. For the moral development of our own society we need to oppose this evil incarnation of marriages by tooth and nail.
